Hey guys, I know it's been a while. In this post, I will outline some of the music I've been listening to lately and new releases. Hope you enjoy!
Alright, so I'm going to start out with my usual favorite artists and then jump into some different songs and artists I've discovered and some amazing new music that's been released.
Taylor Swift:
As I'm sure you know by now, Taylor Swift is one of my favorite artists. In July of 2020 she released a surprise album titled folklore full of amazing, easy listening music full of stories and visuals. Then, in December, to celebrate her 30th birthday, Swift dropped yet another surprise album! This is extremely uncommon for the singer, who generally likes to build up excitement and tease fans with art and easter eggs before the album release. evermore is Swift's ninth studio album and is the sister album to folklore. In this album, Swift returns to her country roots with some more country-inspired songs as well as more stories and delicate piano tracks. Some of my favorite songs off evermore are:
-willow
-champagne problems
-'tis the damn season
-tolerate it
-coney island
-long story short
-marjorie
-closure
-evermore
willow is the main featured song off the album, with the music video being a continuation of Swift's cardigan video, the main song off of folklore. It has a mysterious tune, and Swift has already released multiple remixes of the song, including a Dancing Witch version.
champagne problems is a quiet and sad song about a girl who rejects her partner's proposal and the aftermath of the debacle.
'tis the damn season is really a nice nostalgic song about a past love left in her hometown and the little time they share before parting their separate ways. It's a simple song with a cozy theme.
tolerate it is definitely one of the sadder songs off the album about not being valued in a relationship and has a heartbreaking sound to it.
coney island is another nostalgic song about a lost lover and kind of sitting down and reflecting back on what happened. Featuring The National, it's a bit of a tornado of emotion yet still simple.
long story short is a bit of a fun song with an upbeat telling of a mistake. It's basically saying, "whoops, I screwed up, it wasn't fun, but it all came out in the wash".
marjorie is a pretty and meaningful song to Swift, told about her grandmother after her death. Definitely haunting and sad, but with an acceptance. Swift's grandmother was an opera singer, and her vocals feature on the track in the background, a nice personal touch.
closure is another more upbeat song about the end of something and finding closure. In the song, the character has already found personal closure and no longer requires the closure of the other party. It's an easy song to listen to.
Finally, evermore is one of the prettiest songs off the album, featuring Bon Iver (who also featured on folklore) and talking about pain and a quiet winter. It's delicate and stormy and one of the best songs on the album.
Ed Sheeran:
As I've mentioned before, Ed has been on a bit of a break since the birth of his daughter, however, he did release his new song Afterglow, which I talked about in another article. It is kind of a sweet, nostalgic song with a crescendo of layering and showcasing Sheeran's high notes.
Lately, I've been listening a lot to Photograph from his X album but that's kind of just a side note.
One Direction:
I know what you're going to say, but hear me out! Yes, One Direction is old and a lot of people don't like it and they're on hiatus. However, I have had a bit of a 2012 relapse and have been listening to all things 1D. Don't come at me.
Here are the main songs I've been listening to:
-Steal My Girl
-18
-Night Changes
-Where Do Broken Hearts Go
-Ready to Run
-No Control
-Perfect
-History
-Best Song Ever
-Story of My Life
-You & I
-Live While We're Young
-Little Things
-I Would
-What Makes You Beautiful
-One Thing
I won't go into detail with all of them, however while they may not be what mainstream pop looks like today, they are quite nostalgic and there are some classic party songs in there that won't ever be forgotten.
Harry Styles:
That being said, the boys are doing well on their own, and have some great songs. I recently started listening to Harry Styles and his new songs and I found they're quite good.
Here are my favorites:
-Golden
-Watermelon Sugar
-Adore You
-Falling
-Sign of the Times
-Two Ghosts
-Sweet Creature
Now I find it hard with his music to like it all, because a lot of it is a bit more rock oriented, however these few are really good. My favorite is Falling, such an emotional, sad song that I would 100% recommend to anyone and everyone. I'm also a fan of Golden, with a catchy tune and just a fun song in general. And then obviously, there's the classics like Adore You and Watermelon Sugar, that are just great songs that everyone vibes to.
Louis Tomlinson:
I don't like Louis's music as much, but maybe that's just because I haven't had as much time to listen to it. However the main songs I like of his are Miss You and Too Young. Miss You is kind of an upbeat song about missing someone and Too Young is really quite a sad story. Louis just released a new song called Defenceless, so make sure to listen to that as well.
Niall Horan:
Niall has some pretty good music since his solo career started. He released two albums plus a few singles.
My favorites:
-Slow Hands
-Nice to Meet Ya
-No Judgement
-Put A Little Love on Me
Niall's music is more upbeat and fun, which is nice to listen to. My favorite at the moment is No Judgement since it's a pretty easy song with a nice message. I've downloaded his albums so I'll be listening to those to see if I like his other stuff.
Those are the main artists I'm listening to at the moment. Now I'll go through some single songs I'm enjoying.

Anyway there's some songs I've been listening to if you're interested. I want to take a second to talk about driver's license. So Olivia Rodrigo is a Disney actor currently starring on the show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. She released driver's license as her first single and boy is it an amazing song. Full of emotion and beautiful vocals, it quickly jumped to the top of the charts. Fans think the song is about her costar, Joshua Bassett due to dating rumors that circled the two. Also, a lyric in Olivia's song "and you're probably with that blonde girl, who always made me doubt. She's so much older than me, she's everything I'm insecure about" made fans think she meant Sabrina Carpenter, who has been recently spotted with Bassett and are rumored to be dating. Sabrina is blonde, older than Olivia and very pretty so it's possible the lyric is directed at her. Furthermore, a few weeks ago Sabrina Carpenter seemingly dropped a response, Skin (beautiful song by the way), which has a lyric that goes "maybe blonde was the only rhyme", so fans are now speculating that Skin is a response to Olivia's song. Either way, both songs are really pure and beautiful, so I would really suggest listening to both.
A few other artists I've discovered in the past few months have been Madison Beer, Conor Maynard, James Bay, Julia Michaels, and a ton of Tik Tok songs I love. While I don't like all of Madison's music, she does have a really pretty voice and some of her songs are pretty good. Conor Maynard is a YouTube singer that is just so talented. I found him and Madison in a video and the vocals are just incredible. My friend introduced me to James Bay, who has some sweet and sad songs and I found Julia Michaels who has some good collabs with Shawn Mendes, JP Saxe, and Niall Horan. Anyway, all these songs are amazing, and I would highly recommend listening to them!
Anyway, that's all for today. I hope you enjoyed learning about some of my favorite music of the moment and hopefully I've given you some good suggestions for your playlist! Make sure to leave me a comment if you enjoyed or have something to say! Until next week!
